FPG/SMH and BCBS Reach Agreement

Sarasota Memorial Health Care System has reached a new, 3-year agreement with Blue Cross and Blue Shield/Florida Blue (BCBS).

Effective July 1, 2021, the agreement provides uninterrupted “in-network” coverage to BCBS members seeking care at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, First Physicians Group (FPG) and the health system’s complete network of outpatient and urgent care services through June 30, 2024. The agreement also will cover services provided at the new Sarasota Memorial Hospital-Venice when it opens this fall.

The new agreement applies to BCBS Medicare Advantage, Exchange and Commercial/Managed Care plans inside and outside of Florida, including the insurer’s BlueSelect, Blue Options, BlueCare and myBlue plans.

“Blue Cross and Blue Shield-Florida Blue has been a valued partner of ours for decades, and we look forward to working with them to continue providing high-quality, affordable care to patients in our community,” said Sarasota Memorial CEO David Verinder.

Designating an FPG Primary Care Provider

Some First Physicians Group patients may have received a letter from BCBS changing their primary care provider (PCP). In order to continue care with FPG, those patients should contact BCBS to change their physician back to their chosen provider.

Patients who have already submitted forms to change providers can call FPG’s Central Business office at 941-917-2600 for assistance.
