The editors of Money magazine have named Sarasota one of the nation's "Best Places to Live," ranking the community seventh on a list led by New York City. The editors noted the top-ranked cities for featuring "a strong sense of community as well as low crime, nice weather, low property taxes and excellent education." The 2001 ranking follows last year's recognition of Sarasota as Money's "Best Small City" in the United States. "We are immensely pleased that Sarasota was recognized again this year, and it is the only community in the Southeast included among the 2001 top-ranked cities," said Rex Richards, president of the Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce.

Cultural landmarks include the John and Mable Ringling Museum which features the works of Peter Paul Rubens, as well as fine Baroque and Renaissance collections.
